Work Area on Missions
The Work Area on Missions is a committee responsible for all adult mission efforts. Responsibilities include making mission budget decisions, supporting the efforts of ongoing and future mission trips, and making decisions concerning the support of international and local missionaries outside of our church family. Some of our recent work is noted below.
The 7.0 earthquake that rocked Haiti on January 12, 2010 left an estimated 1,000,000 homeless.
In an effort to address the homeless situation, C.O.R.E. Alliance (Christians Organized for Relief Efforts) based in Houston, Texas (www.core-alliance.org) and Christ In Action based in Manassas, VA , (www.christinaction.com) are working on an initiative called "Shelter Haiti." Homes are built in the US, shipped unassembled to Haiti and upon arrival in Haiti can be erected within two hours. The homes are a simple 8' x 12' structure with a floor, roof and 2 bunks, to sleep eight.
Bethel United Methodist Church is partnering with these organizations in this mission endeavor.
Phase 1 June 12, 2010 - Construct and ship 12 homes
Phase 2 Raise additional funds to construct 12 or more homes - The estimated cost for 12 homes is $9000 for building materials and trucking cost.
